12 DAYS ITINERARY
Day
1: Depart
Nome on one of Bering Air Charter flights
Departure time: Nome 12:30 p.m. (Sunday)

Day 2:
Arrival
at the Provideniya Airport via the Bering Air charter.
Short excursion trip (9 km) from the airport to
Provideniya, along the Emma Bay with a short presentation
about history, economy and people inhabiting Ureliki
village and Provideniya town. accommodations at an
apartment (managed as a hotel), traditional Russian 
home-style lunch, visit to the local museum exhibition.
There is possibility that local native (Chukchi and
Eskimo) dancing ensemble will give a performance; walking
tour in town to the Bering monument, shopping, dinner in
the local cafeteria or in the apartment, outdoor equipment
check, and discussion of the tour. |
| Day 3:
Light breakfast, we travel by ATV bus (25 km) to the
native village of New Chaplino (population of 425);
village tour and meet with local people (Siberian Yupiks).
Drive (12 km) to the local hunters’ camp at the Inahpak
place; accommodation at the hunters cabin, lunch; observe
gray whales and sea birds at the Chechekuem, straight.
Depending on weather, either dinner and spend the night at
the hunters cabin, or we go by boat to the Gil’mimil’
lagoon (around the Sinyavina hot springs) on two aluminum
skiffs “Lund-18 boats, equipped with 40 h/p outboard
motors, CB radios, GPS, safety vests and rain gear. During
the boat ride (about 1 hour) you might see the migration
of the gray whales, walrus, seals, and sea birds. Set up
our tent camp, and then dinner. |
| Day
4: Breakfast, boat ride to the Ytygran Island (14 km) and
visit to Whale Bone Alley. Light tundra lunch, boat ride
(9 km) to Nunengan Island, one of the richest sea bird
colonies (mural, kittiwake, puffin and cormorant). Return
to the base camp, walking tour, and fishing, swimming in
the hot springs, dinner with tundra gifts served (salmon,
mushrooms, berries, seal and walrus. |
Day
5:  After
breakfast we load our boats and ride along the Sinyavina
strait to the entry to the Penkignei Bay, visit to the
Merninkan Island (Toporkovyi) colony of the horned and
tufted puffins, pigeon guillemot; tea in the tundra, boat
ride to the Native village of Yanrakynnot (population of
360, engaged in the reindeer herding and marine mammal
hunting). Excursion in the village, visit to the local
hospital, shop, abandoned fox farm. Steam at the private
sauna, dinner with a native family in their home including
tasting of the subsistence foods (reindeer meat, berries,
mushrooms). Sleep in the village apartment. |
| Day
6: After breakfast we will sail to Lorino (32 km). On our
way we will visit Getlyanin lagoon, with a possible stop
to visit with reindeer herdsmen. After arriving at Lorino
will we tour the town. We will meet with Native walrus and
whale hunter. We will spend the night in the village
apartment. |
| Day
7: After breakfast if the weather is good we hope to see
gray whale and walrus hunting by the local people. We will
lunch at Akkani sea hunter’s base and returning to
Lorino for dinner and overnight. |
| Day
8: Breakfast first before we load our bus for the drive to
Lavrentiya (24K) on the way we will make a stop at another
local hot springs. After our arrival we will settle into
our apartment. A tour of the local museum will be
given as well a visit to the “Etti” Club for native
dancing and refreshments. |
| Day
9: Breakfast will be early as we drive back to Lorino have
lunch and the sail back to Yanrakynnot . If the weather
conditions are suitable we will sail back to the Senyavina
hot springs for dinner and a dip in the hot springs before
dinner. |
| Day 10: Another early breakfast and then we sell to the marine
hunters base “ Inahpak” After a stop for tea we will
then load our bus and drive to Provideniya for lunch. We
will then visit a typical Russian steam bath followed by a
farewell dinner. |
| Day
11: Reserve day in case of weather delays. |
| Day 12: Breakfast in our Apartment, them we load the bus and
drive to the Provideniya airport, customs clearance and
passport control Depart Provideniya on Bering Air return
to Nome, Alaska.
